Our Story
(as told by Lucy)
It was February of my freshman year at Auburn and I received a text from my sorority sister, Miranda. She asked if I would want to go to a swing dance lesson with her friend from home who had just transferred to Auburn. Without much hesitation, I agreed and she passed on my information to this mystery guy. The next day, Sam texted me and arranged what time he would pick me up along with other details about the night.
When the evening rolled around, I was beginning to get nervous. Why did I agree to go on a blind date with someone?! However, my nerves were quickly calmed when the sweetest guy showed up at my apartment to take me to swing dance. As we arrived at the house at which the lesson was being hosted, the other BYX guys there began introducing the girl that they had brought and how they knew each other. As smooth as Sam is, he said "This is Lucy. We met 10 minutes ago." If this was any indication of how the night was going to go, I knew it would be interesting & fun.
Fast forward two days and Sam was taking me to my sorority Valentine's Day social (talk about finding a date last minute...). Although I was still my shy/awkward self around him, Sam and I had an amazing time. We ended the night by sitting in my car outside of his dorm and talking until 2 AM! I had convinced myself that I was not interested in dating anyone but something about this guy intrigued me.
After that night, we began hanging out ALL the time and anytime someone would ask me if there was anything going on between us, I would quickly answer, "no, we are just friends". (Side note: I would NEVER use the word "friend" in front of Sam because I was secretly interested and didn't want to put him in the friend zone). It only took about a month of me "processing my feelings" (exact quote... Sam still teases me to this day) to become Sam's girlfriend.
Since then, we have been inseparable. Sam is the kind of guy who helps me laugh at myself when I am taking things too seriously and pushes me to be the best version of myself by challenging me spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. The Lord has truly blessed our relationship and I CAN'T WAIT to see where He takes us as husband and wife.
